Time To Travel Thursdays May 2025: Beach Edition
There is just something about May that feels like pure magic, especially when you are dreaming of a beach getaway. The days are longer, the sunshine feels a little warmer, and that ocean breeze seems to whisper, “It is time to travel.”
Whether you are planning a big family vacation, a romantic couples’ escape, or even a solo adventure with a great book and a cozy beach chair, May is the perfect month to say yes to a little more sand between your toes.

Ready to start planning your beach adventure? Here are a few favorite tips to help you soak up every second of your time by the sea. I am getting ready to head to the beach this month, so these are some of my tried and true travel suggestions.
Pack Smart and Light for Maximum Beach Bliss
When you are heading to the beach, less really is more. Choose comfortable, easy outfits that can take you from a morning walk along the water to an evening seafood dinner under the stars. Think sundresses, swim cover-ups, and a few light layers for those cooler ocean breezes. A wide-brimmed hat, a couple of swimsuits, and a roomy tote bag will be your best friends. Leave a little extra space in your suitcase too, because those beach boutiques always seem to have the perfect souvenir waiting for you.
Sun Protection is a Must for Every Beach Day
The beach sun has a way of feeling wonderful and powerful at the same time. It is important to be ready for it. Pack reef-safe sunscreen with a high SPF, a cute pair of sunglasses with UV protection, and a floppy hat you love wearing. A lightweight rash guard or beach cover-up can be another great way to stay protected without cutting into your fun. You will thank yourself when you are comfortably enjoying those long beach afternoons and gorgeous sunsets without the sting of a sunburn.
Easy Shoes Make for Happy Feet
Beaches are meant for barefoot walks and relaxed vibes, so keep your footwear simple. Flip-flops and slip-on sandals are all you need for hopping between the beach, the pool, and those charming little seaside shops. If you plan to explore rocky coves or go on boat rides, it can be smart to tuck a pair of water shoes into your bag too. No fancy shoes required, just a carefree spirit ready for adventure.
Stay Hydrated and Feel Your Best
When you are soaking up all that sun and sea breeze, it is easy to forget how much water your body needs. Keep a refillable water bottle in your beach bag and sip throughout the day. Adding a few packets of electrolyte powder or picking up some fresh coconut water can also be a refreshing way to boost your hydration. Trust me, you will feel so much better keeping up with all your beach adventures when you stay ahead of thirst.
Go with the Flow When It Comes to Beach Hair
Perfectly styled hair and beach days do not usually go hand in hand, and honestly, that is part of the fun. Salt air and ocean water create those gorgeous, tousled beach waves you usually pay a stylist for back home. Pack a nourishing leave-in conditioner to protect against dryness, bring along a few soft scrunchies or clips, and just let your hair do its thing. Some of the best beach memories happen when you let go, enjoy the moment, and laugh through every windswept selfie.
Capture the Moments That Make Your Trip
Some of the sweetest beach memories happen when you are least expecting them, so be sure to have your phone or camera ready. From sandy toes to sunset skies, you will want to capture it all. Make a little space on your phone ahead of time and bring a portable charger for those long days by the water. When you get home, you will be so happy you have those sun-soaked snapshots to remind you of just how good it felt to slow down and savor it all.
There is nothing quite like standing at the water’s edge, feeling the waves roll in, and letting the sound of the ocean quiet the rush of everyday life. No matter where you are heading this May, I hope you find a little slice of beach paradise that fills your heart to the brim.
Featured Blog Topic On Shoreline Journeys For April
I spent most of April writing about our trip to Beaches Turks & Caicos. We had such an amazing time and it was such a fantastic resort. Want to know more about it? Just click on the button below to check out my complete blog series about Beaches Resorts in Turks & Caicos.
My goal for May is to share everything about our vacation to Sandals Royal Curaçao last year, so make sure you stop back in for that. There is so much to cover with that resort that it will probably take the entire month. When you have so much in your head, it’s hard sometimes to get it it all out into a post, but I am going to do my best!
Featured Travel Blog Posts This Month
This month did not have a lot of entries which is understandable since it is so new. But I will say that the post from The Hungry Mountaineer about Pesto, Shrimp, and Goat Cheese Keto Wontons really got my vacation appetite going. Be sure to go check it out!
