Whether you’re wandering along the famous Boardwalk or immersing yourself in local culture, there’s no shortage of things to do in Wildwood, NJ that don’t involve spending time at the beach.

Spend The Afternoon On The Boardwalk
One of the best ways to experience Wildwood NJ is by spending an afternoon on its famous boardwalk. Stretching for miles, the Wildwood Boardwalk is a hub of activity and excitement. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just looking for some family-friendly fun, there’s something for everyone.
A Day at Mariner’s Arcade
Step inside and you’re instantly surrounded by the cheerful sights and sounds of an old-fashioned arcade with a modern twist. Dive into a world of gaming excitement as you try your hand at classic pinball machines or test your skills on the latest video game consoles. For a nostalgic trip down memory lane, enjoy a game of skee-ball or aim for the high score in air hockey.
Challenge your family to a round of basketball shootouts or see who can drum up the highest points on the dance machines. Winning tickets can be traded in for exciting prizes, adding to the thrill of the arcade adventure. Whether you’re a gaming enthusiast or just seeking a bit of playful fun, Mariner’s Arcade offers a welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for creating delightful memories with family and friends.
Average Cost To Play At Mariner’s Arcade
Most arcade games cost between $0.50 to $1.50 per play, making it easy to jump in and start playing without spending a fortune. For those planning to indulge in lengthy gaming sessions, the arcade often provides value deals on game tokens or cards, allowing you to stretch your entertainment dollars further.
Treat Yourself to Boardwalk Eats
Of course, no visit to the boardwalk is complete without sampling some of the delicious food on offer. Indulge in a slice of pizza, savor a funnel cake, or cool down with some ice cream. The variety of food options ensures that even the pickiest eaters will find something they love.
One of the biggest pizza rivalries on the Wildwood Boardwalk is Mack’s Pizza vs. Sam’s Pizza. If you have been here before, do you have a favorite?
If you don’t want to spend your time on the beach, then take the time to visit each and decide for yourself. In case you are wondering, we don’t prefer either of those. Our favorite is a little shop off the Boardwalk and it starts our trip every year.
Eating On The Wildwood Boardwalk Is A Budget-Friendly Option
On average, a quick snack such as a slice of pizza, a hotdog, or a refreshing ice cream cone can cost between $3 to $6. For heartier fare, like a burger or a fresh seafood basket, you might spend anywhere from $10 to $15. If you’re in the mood to indulge, many boardwalk eateries offer rich and satisfying meals, with prices generally ranging from $15 to $25 per plate.
Enjoy Spectacular Views On The Wildwood Boardwalk
Don’t forget to take a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk itself. The views of the ocean are simply breathtaking, even during the day. It is often less crowded on the Boardwalk during the day, so it is the perfect time to get some shopping done without a ton of people crowding your space.
Here are a few pictures of what the afternoon on the Boardwalk looks like:
As you can clearly see, it is so much less crowded and easier to manuever. You can take you time searching for the perfect souvenir of your trip.
Take Some Time To Read When Looking For Things To Do In Wildwood NJ
If you’re someone who finds solace in the pages of a good book, Wildwood has you covered. Sometimes, the best vacation moments are those spent in quiet reflection, lost in a captivating story.
Local Bookstores
Visit some of the local bookstores in Downtown Wildwood. These quaint shops offer a range of books, from bestsellers to hidden gems. Find a comfortable spot, perhaps a cozy café nearby, and lose yourself in a good read.
On the Boardwalk, there is a t-shirt shop next to Shore Lines that has lots of used books to peruse and purchase. When I bring books, I leave them in the hotel’s office in case someone needs a new book to read.
Beach Reads Without the Beach
Even if you’re not a fan of the sand, you can still enjoy a beach read. Pick a spot by the pool or find a quiet nook in your hotel. Reading while on vacation allows you to escape into another world while still being surrounded by the beauty of Wildwood.
These are my two choices for vacation reads for Wildwood 2024. You can get your copies of these titles here:
- Funny Story by Emily Henry
- The Summer We Started Over by Nancy Thayer
As you can see, I combined pool time with reading time while on our most recent trip.
I work at a bookstore, so I am always full of book recommendations for a good beach (or non-beach) vacation. A few of my favorites include:
- The Coworker by Frieda McFadden
- Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
- Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride
- Fan Girl Down by Tessa Bailey
These are just a few of the titles I have read during vacations.
Family Reading Time
Encourage your kids to join you with their favorite books. It’s a wonderful way to relax as a family while enjoying some downtime. Plus, it’s a great habit to foster in children. Picture books that feature ocean animals can help a child who is unsure learn to love the beach as much as adults.
Here are some of my favorite children’s books to share about the beach:
- Bluey The Beach
- Little Kids First Nature Guide: Explore the Beach
- Curious George Goes To The Beach
- Summer Vacation, Here I Come!
- Commotion By The Ocean
Splash Away The Day At Your Hotel’s Pool
Who says you need the beach to enjoy the water? Most hotels in Wildwood NJ offer fantastic pools where you can splash the day away without worrying about sand getting everywhere.
Poolside Fun for Everyone
Hotel pools in Wildwood are often designed with families in mind, featuring shallow areas for younger children and deeper sections for more confident swimmers. Poolside loungers are perfect for parents who want to relax while keeping an eye on the kids.
Pool Games and Activities
Bring along some pool toys and games to enhance your time in the water. From inflatable rings to water guns, a few poolside essentials can turn an ordinary swim into an exciting adventure. Remember to be aware of others around you, and if there are a lot of people in the pool, forgo the toys and just swim around.
The Best Travel Pool Games
- Floating Basketball Hoop for Pool with 3 Pool Balls
- UNO Splash Card Game for Outdoor Camping, Travel & Family Nights with Water-Resistent Plastic Cards
- Shark Underwater Diving Toys, Colorful Swimming Toy Sinking Throwing for Kids
- Pool Shark Cornhole Board Games Toys Set, Summer Inflatable Shark Floating Swimming Pool
Refreshing Drinks and Snacks
Many hotels offer poolside service, so you can enjoy refreshing drinks and snacks without having to leave the comfort of your lounge chair. It’s the perfect way to stay hydrated and energized throughout the day. Remember to always follow the pool rules when it comes to food and drink at poolside.
Our hotel doesn’t allow it, but it just a short trip to our room in order to get what we need in case we are hungry or thirsty. Don’t forget to dry off before heading in to your room so it isn’t more clean-up for already hard working staff.
Costs Involved With Spending Time At The Pool
Generally this is a free activity because it is included in the cost of your hotel or motel stay. It is a great way for your kids to have fun while you take some time for yourself. Self-care at its best.

Things To Do In Wildwood NJ Include A Visit The Downtown Market On The Weekends
For a taste of local flavor, head to the Wildwoods Downtown Farmer’s Market. Held every weekend, this market is a treasure trove of fresh produce, handmade crafts, and delicious treats.
Fresh and Local Produce
Support local farmers by purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables. Not only will you be getting some of the best produce around, but you’ll also be contributing to the local community. From succulent tomatoes bursting with flavor to crisp lettuce and aromatic herbs, there’s an abundance of wholesome ingredients to elevate your homemade meals. Whether you’re selecting the perfect watermelon for a summer picnic or gathering a medley of bright bell peppers for a stir-fry, the market’s produce promises unmatched quality and freshness.
Unique Finds and Souvenirs
Explore the various stalls for unique handmade crafts and souvenirs. From artisanal soaps to handcrafted jewelry, you’re sure to find something special to take home. Beautifully designed pottery and vibrant handmade jewelry to intricately woven baskets and cozy knitted goods, there’s no shortage of treasures to discover. These distinctive items make perfect gifts or wonderful additions to your home.
Trust me, when it’s cold and snowing outside, any souvenir you have from a local Wildwood artist will make you smile and bring back the wonderful memories of a Wildwood vacation.
Delicious Treats
Don’t forget to sample some of the delicious homemade treats available at the market. From baked goods to jams and preserves, there’s something to satisfy every sweet tooth.
Make sure you stop at the Chamber of Commerce stand and get your Wildwood NJ car magnets. In the dead of Winter, after a hard day at work, walking to the car and seeing that magnet always makes me smile and remember all the fun things to do in Wildwood NJ when it’s Summer.
The Costs Involved With The Wildwood Downtown Farmer’s Market
Admission into the farmer’s market is free, which makes it a great option if you don’t want to spend time on the beach. Fresh fruits and vegetables generally range from $1 to $5 per pound, allowing you to bring home seasonal delights at a reasonable price. Handmade crafts and decor items vary, typically costing between $10 and $25, providing unique keepsakes or perfect gifts. For those with a sweet tooth, locally baked goods and homemade treats are often priced from $3 to $8 each.
Challenge Your Family To A Game Of Mini-Golf
Mini-golf is a classic family activity, and Starlux Mini Golf in Wildwood NJ offers one of the best courses around. It’s a fun and competitive way to spend an afternoon with loved ones when you are looking for things to do in Wildwood NJ when you don’t like the beach.
Unique Course Designs
Starlux Mini Golf features three unique courses, each with its own theme and challenging obstacles. Whether you choose the beach-themed course or the space adventure, you’re in for a fun and engaging game. If you prefer the Boardwalk, the raised course is just for you.
As you can see, the course is above where my sons are standing. If you have mobility issues, there is a set of steps going up to it, so you might want to skip that one.
We don’t play the Boardwalk course that much because it is in full-sun. It can get hot and sweaty up there, and if there isn’t an ocean breeze, it can be a bit uncomfortable. Just be aware before playing.
If you love the beach, then the Beach Course is definitely for you. From sand dunes to sand traps, you will be lost in the fun of the challenge of this course.
Last but not least, you have the Ocean Course for all the water lovers. This course is my demise, and the reason I lose year after year. But I still enjoy playing and wouldn’t miss it for the world!
Friendly Competition
Mini-golf is perfect for a little friendly competition. Keep score and see who can get the most hole-in-ones. It’s a great way to bond as a family while enjoying a bit of playful rivalry.
I joke sometimes that it is my job to have the highest scores, although this year I was in the middle of the pack, so that is a good thing!
Beautiful Surroundings
Located near the Boardwalk, Starlux Mini Golf offers beautiful surroundings to enjoy while you play. The well-maintained courses and scenic views add to the overall experience.
Mini-Golf Is A Budget-Friendly Activity
Admission prices start at a friendly rate of $10 for children and $12 for adults, ensuring everyone can partake in the joy of mini golf. Whether you’re planning a playful outing with friends or a family adventure, Starlux Mini Golf offers an inviting atmosphere without breaking the bank.
I have to say that the course at Starlux Mini-Golf is even nicer at night, so make sure you stop back one evening for a rematch if you are the one with the highest score. I was pretty excited that this trip was the first time I wasn’t at the bottom. Yay me!
Engage In Self Care By Taking A Good Old-Fashioned Nap
Sometimes, the best thing you can do on vacation is nothing at all. Taking the time to rest and recharge is essential, and a good old-fashioned nap can do wonders. I work retail, and my time leading up to our Wildwood vacation is generally very busy. I am up early and go to bed late, so I am generally pretty worn out.
That’s where nap time comes in, and it is something I highly recommend.
Create a Relaxing Environment
Make your hotel room a haven of relaxation. Close the curtains, dim the lights, and play some soothing music. Creating the right environment can help you unwind and enjoy a restful nap. It is hard sometimes to do this if your pool is near your room, but it is worth the effort in the end.
Benefits of Napping
Napping can improve your mood, boost your energy levels, and enhance your overall well-being. It’s a simple yet effective form of self-care that can make a big difference in how you feel.
We always come to Wildwood NJ in June, and at that point a lot of us are burnt out from post-holiday season craziness and end-of-year goals at work. Our trips to Wildwood NJ are meant for relaxing and recharging, and naps are always on our list of things to do.
Family Nap Time
Encourage the whole family to take a break and enjoy some quiet time. Even if everyone doesn’t fall asleep, simply resting and relaxing together can be a wonderful bonding experience. A good nap during the afternoon helps prepare everyone for a fun evening on the Boardwalk.
In fact, while I am working bringing you this great information, the rest of my family are enjoying a nap in our hotel room. It’s okay, as the view for my work area isn’t too shabby at all. I swam earlier, and it has relaxed me so much that I am finding the writing is just flowing.
Costs For Family Naptime On Vacation
This is probably one of my favorite activities in Wildwood NJ that goes beyond the beach because the cost is free and the benefits are priceless. You need to try it!
Wildwood NJ offers a myriad of activities that go beyond the beach, ensuring that every family member has an unforgettable time. From the bustling Boardwalk to the serene moments of reading and relaxing, there’s something for everyone. By exploring these alternatives, you’ll discover a different side of Wildwood that’s just as exciting and enjoyable.
