Sunchi Swim-up Club Level Junior Suite At Sandals Royal Curaçao
One of my favorite things about my Sandals Resorts trips is sharing about what room my husband and I have stayed in. Today I am talking about the Sunchi swim-up club level junior suite we stayed in during our May 2024 trip to Sandals Royal Curaçao.
Picture this: a large & spacious room that leads out to a pool that you just step into from your patio. You have room to swim around. Get thirsty? Grab a drink from your in-room bar. Want a snack while you are swimming? Give room service a call and have them bring it right to your room. Sounds too good to be true? Well, it isn’t, and let me tell you more about it.
One of my favorite travel tips to recommend is flying into your destination a day before your Sandals Resorts vacation. One because it cuts down on stress from making a connection, and then you can experience the local culture before heading to your resort. Willemstad was one of the nicest and safest places we experience so far in our travels.

Let’s Give Some Background On The Island Of Curaçao
Where is Curaçao Situated?
Curaçao is part of the ABC island group, nestled between Aruba and Bonaire, and is located approximately 40 miles north of Venezuela’s coastline. Its position below the hurricane belt makes it an ideal destination to visit any time of the year.
Which Airport Should I Use to Reach the Resort?
To get to the island, you’ll fly into Hato International Airport (CUR). With flights available from major cities like Miami, Charlotte, and New York City, you can be sipping a cocktail in no time. There are also various inter-island flights, making it easy to explore nearby islands!
Is the Water Safe to Drink in Curaçao?
Not only is the water in Curaçao safe to drink, but it also boasts excellent quality. In 1890, American wind turbines were introduced to assist with land irrigation, and by 1928, a seawater distillery was set up to provide drinking water. Our private driver to the resort proudly shared this interesting fact about the island’s water.
Is It Safe to Stroll Around Curaçao at Night?
Definitely! We felt very secure walking around downtown Willemstad at night. The sight of the Queen Emma Bridge illuminated after dark is truly magical. The locals are friendly, and we never encountered any issues. It was a delightful experience!
Sunchi Swim-Up Club Level Junior Suite Room Review
Now that you know a little bit about the island of Curaçao, let’s deep dive into the room review for this room category. If you have been reading my blog for any amount of time, you know that my husband and I have a love of the swim-up rooms that began back in 2021 at Sandals Grande St. Lucian.
Pretty much now, I am booking this room category as much as I can because of everything a swim-up room has to offer. We love being able to have fun at the main pool for most of the day and then head back to our room for a more quiet setting before dinner and after evening entertainment.
Where Are The Sunchi Swim-Up Level Rooms Located On The Resort?
Located in buildings two, seven, and eight, they provide a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of the main areas of the resort. I will say that building two is a bit noisier because it is close to the beach club area where they have evening entertainment, so if you are sensitive to noise, you may want to avoid this building.
However, this is the exact building I requested because of the style of the swim up pool in this area. It has a nice lagoon style mini river along the side of the building that gave you bonus swimming areas. It wrapped around to the front swim-ups and we were able to meet some nice people during that time.
Buildings seven and eight provide the most privacy, but the swimming area is not as extensive.
Let’s Discuss The Room Layout For This Swim-Up Room
Let me start of by saying that my husband and I absolutely loved the layout for this room. For us, it was functional for the most part, and we had no complaints about how the room was laid out. Let’s start with the entry area:
As you enter the door, you will see the bathroom immediately on your right(or left, depending on which room you get). It is a mostly open concept bathroom that let’s in a lot of light, so it is bright and airy.
You will see the toilet with a pocket door to close when someone is using it.
Next you have your vanity space with the sink and make-up mirror. There are no US compatible plugs, so make sure you get a proper voltage converter to use for both the bathroom and the bedroom area for your cell phone or e-reader.
The bathroom comes with a hair dryer, so you don’t need to worry about taking up space in your suitcase for that. Underneath the sink, there is a shelf that stores your towels and any bathroom supplies you want to keep in there. I would put my curling iron, makeup bag, and other things underneath so it made it easier for housekeeping to care for our bathroom.
The shower is a bit different in the fact that the middle part is frosted glass, and the bottom of it is plain glass. If you are a tall person, it doesn’t pose a problem. But if you are vertically challenged like me, it could be a bit interesting.
All kidding aside, it did have one of the best shower heads at all the resorts I have been too. It moved up and down, which was great on the days I didn’t want to wash my hair, but my husband could use it his way by simply moving it up. I thought the water pressure and temperature was perfect, too.
The Closet & In-Room Bar In The Sunchi Swim-Up Club Room
Directly opposite the bathroom, you will find your closet. There is plenty of space to hang all your clothes, and they provide all the hangers that you need. And if you run out, they will certainly bring you more!
You will also find your in-room safe and umbrellas in the closet, as well as a full ironing board and iron. There is generally enough room to store your suitcases in the closet as well. You will also find your robes in the closet. The are yours to use while you are on resort. Love them as much as I do? You can also purchase them in the gift shop too!
Being part of club concierge, this room also features a full in-room bar that gets stocked on a daily basis. You also have a mini fridge that is fully stocked with beer, wine, juices, and other mixers for your bar. Club Sandals restocks it every day. Don’t like certain sodas or juices? Need more Coca Cola to go with your rum? No problem! Just leave a note for the beverage team and they will tailor the fridge to your needs.
The Bedroom Area Of The Sunchi Swim-Up Club Level Room
As always, the beds in the rooms at Sandals Resorts are large and comfortable. You have end tables on each side of the bed, and reading lights above your head.
The bedroom area is fairly large and easy to navigate, and we found it perfectly lovely. I know you will too. The bench at the foot of the bed was perfect for using to put your shoes on or just sitting for a moment.
Please note, there are no US plugs in the bedroom area. As I mentioned above, I remedied that situation by making sure I had the proper voltage converter for plugs directly next to the bed area. I also recommend bringing a long USB plug for your phone, as there is a USB port available underneath the beside table.
The Living Room & Storage Areas
As you all know, there is no such thing as the perfect room. There are always things that can be improved. One of the things we noted about this room is that there isn’t enough storage space for other clothing items that you can’t hang up in the closet.
While we don’t bring a lot of extra things, there are only two drawers in the living room area to store clothing. I had to store my bathing suits and other clothing items on the open shelves. While it isn’t a big deal, it did make the room look a bit untidy and I was always afraid of leaving a mess for housekeeping.
Speaking of housekeeping, they were fantastic. They always had our room made up in a timely fashion, as we tended to spend the afternoons in the swim-up and we always try to make sure that we are out of their way so they can do their jobs.
There is also a small seating area in the room.
The Patio Area Of The Sunchi Swim-Up Club Level Room
The patio area of the Sunchi swim-up club level room was a favorite spot of mine. Often I would sit out there in the afternoon after taking a swim with a drink & my book while my husband took time for himself and had a nap. I loved how I could be on the covered patio if there was a rain shower, and still enjoy it.
There was a rack for drying our suits and towels.
And a tub to use in the evening for a nice soak before heading to bed.
Isn’t it just a lovely space? Now let’s talk about the actual swim-up area.
It’s All About That Gorgeous Swim-Up Area
Back in 2021, when my husband and I had visited Sandals Grande St. Lucian, we had our first swim-up room. We had gotten it for a fabulous price on the 777, and it started my absolute obsession with swim-up rooms. So when my husband and I booked this resort, it was a no brainer to get the Sunchi swim-up club level room.
Let’s show you some pictures so you can get an idea of how much space you have to swim if you request to be in building two. Keep in mind, there are never guarantees when you put in a room or building request, it all depends on the availability.
I also made some new friends in Frank & Bob.
During the afternoon, we would float in the pool area and had fun talking to our fellow swim-up neighbors. In the evenings, you could hear the entertainment while sitting on the patio or floating in the pool. Absolutely lovely and relaxing!
