Flying A Day Early To Your Destination Is A Smart Travel Idea
Make the most of your travel plans by flying a day early! Traveling early allows you to rest & relax before your vacation begins. There is nothing more stressful than worrying about missed connections or airplane delays. Let me tell you why you should start flying a day early.
Would you believe that there was a time that I didn’t like to fly? I was nervous and unsure and completely stressed when it came to travel day. That’s when I discovered the joy of flying a day early to our destination.
I don’t know about you, but I am so excited before travel day that I can’t really sleep. So, I toss and turn and come up with the worst-case scenarios. Arrival day comes and it is all a blur because of being overly tired. Not anymore. Flying in a day early has made everything so much more enjoyable. After all, isn’t that why we travel?

Be Well-Rested Makes Your First Resort Day Better
Opting to arrive at your destination a day in advance can prove to be a wise decision when it comes to air travel. By choosing to fly in a day early, you give yourself ample time to adjust to any potential time zone differences, ensuring that you start your trip feeling refreshed and ready to explore.
We did this for the first-time in 2023 when we went to Sandals. It was so nice not to be worried about missing our connection because there wasn’t a direct flight. We flew into Miami the night before as well, had a leisurely dinner, and went to bed at a decent time.
Reduce Travel Stress By Flying In A Day Early
Flying a day early to your destination gives you a day before your planned activities can be a wise decision when traveling. By giving yourself an extra day, you allow for unexpected delays or cancellations that may occur during your journey. This buffer day can help reduce stress and ensure that you arrive well-rested and ready to enjoy your trip.
Prior to our trip to Sandals Royal Barbados, I was having a disruption in my job that put a lot of stress on my mind and body. Our store was closing for a remodel, and we had to sell down our stock. It was a lot of physical work and dealing with impatient customers.
I was exhausted and tired and cranky. Having the early flight to Miami and getting a good night’s sleep got me back on track and ready to enjoy the beautiful island of Barbados.
By staying at the airport hotel, we had plenty of time to check-in, get through security, find our gate, and have breakfast. A word of caution: not all the rooms at the Miami Airport Hotel are the same. If you plan on staying here, opt for the highest room category you can afford.
In 2022. we flew in Antigua and the connection time was tight. While we made it because our original flight left on time, it was too stressful. I would rather pay for the extra flight and room then be panicking on travel day about late flights or missed connections.
Flying In Early Gives You Time To Explore At Your Own Pace
Additionally, arriving early gives you the opportunity to explore your destination at a leisurely pace. You can take the time to acclimate to the new time zone, familiarize yourself with the area, and even discover hidden gems that you may not have known about otherwise. This extra day can enhance your overall travel experience and make your trip more memorable.
Instead of rushing to your resort and immediately diving into your planned activities, you have the luxury of easing into your destination. This could involve leisurely exploring the local area, indulging in some delicious cuisine, or simply taking some time to relax and unwind before your official itinerary begins.
We stayed at a local hotel and ate at the hotel restaurant. We got to experience the local island and support island businesses. It felt great and it was very relaxing.
By flying a day early, you are giving yourself this extra day, you set the tone for a more enjoyable and well-paced travel experience, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the destination from the moment you arrive.
Flying in a day early can also help you avoid weather related concerns when heading to Caribbean destinations. It is always stressful to travel during hurricane season, so being early can help you get to your destination and avoid bad weather.
And don’t forget, if you have a great travel advisor, they can assist you with any delays that you have.

Oh, I wish! I feel like I’m using every second of my time away from work to plan fun. If I had an extra day to rest, I may not need so much vacation! Arriving a day early to just acclimate would be glorious 🙂
Yeah, it may cost a little more to do it, but the benefits far outweigh the costs. Especially when it comes to making flight connections. Missed connections could end up being so much more, especially if you have a bigger group going.
