As you may have seen from other posts on my website, my family and I love to vacation each Summer in Wildwood NJ. We have a favorite motel that we like to stay at, the Le Voyageur Motel. We have stayed here for well over 20 years because we love the location and the atmosphere.

We normally just stay in the two-bedroom unit at this hotel, but because we came down for a special trip on my birthday weekend, we had to take what was available. I thought I would take some time to describe the efficiency unit at the Le Voyageur Motel so you have an idea of the different room types.

Efficiency Unit at Le Voyageur Motel: What You Need to Know
This particular unit at Le Voyageur is a popular choice for families or small groups who need a bit more than your average motel room. It offers a layout that feels more like a small apartment than a basic hotel space. At a starting price of around $235 per night (depending on the season), it’s a solid value for everything you get, especially considering you’re just a few blocks from the Wildwood boardwalk.
Room Layout and Sleeping Options
One of the biggest benefits of the efficiency unit is the thoughtful layout. The unit is designed with both a bedroom and a separate living room area, giving everyone a little more space to spread out. That can be a huge perk when traveling with kids, teens, or multiple adults.

The room includes one double bed, one twin bed, and one double sofa bed. This setup can comfortably sleep four or five people. The double and twin beds are in the bedroom, while the sofa bed is in the living room area. The separation between spaces is just enough to give everyone some space, and for families with different sleep schedules, that’s a big bonus. However, there is no door for the back bedroom, and I discuss that more in detail below. The beds themselves were firm and supportive, nothing overly plush, but perfectly fine after a long day on the beach or boardwalk.

Kitchenette Amenities That Make a Difference
When you’re vacationing in a beach town like Wildwood, having a kitchenette can be a game changer. This unit’s kitchenette gives you everything you need for simple meals and snacks, which really helps save money and avoid the hustle of eating out for every bite.
The kitchenette includes a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, and a coffee/tea maker. The fridge is a little larger than the usual mini-fridge you might expect and has plenty of room to store drinks, sandwich supplies, and leftovers. The stove top works for quick meals like pasta or eggs, and the microwave is a handy backup when you just want to reheat something.

We really only ever use the kitchenette to reheat things, and we stock the fridge with water and iced tea.
We picked up a few groceries nearby and loved the flexibility of eating breakfast in the room or heating up pizza after a late night on the boardwalk. That said, the closest Acme and CVS are about a 15-minute drive, so if you’re planning to use the kitchenette often, we recommend packing non-perishables like cereal, snacks, and pasta from home to make your stay more convenient. The kitchenette won’t replace a full kitchen, but it’s perfect for a casual beach stay.
Entertainment and WiFi
For downtime in the evenings or a rainy afternoon, the living room area has a 43-inch flat-screen TV with premium cable channels. It was great for relaxing after a long beach day, especially with kids who need a little unwind time. The picture quality was crisp, and we had no issues with sound.

Free WiFi is included and worked reliably across multiple devices. We had laptops, tablets, and phones all connected with no major interruptions. It’s nice to know that whether you’re streaming a movie or checking in on email, you won’t be frustrated with spotty service.
Bathroom and Comfort Features
The bathroom was basic but very clean, with a tub and shower combination that worked well for both quick rinses and getting kids cleaned up after the beach. You’ll find trial-sized toiletries like soap and shampoo, enough for one or two people, but not enough for a larger group or multiple nights. We recommend bringing your own larger bottles or picking some up nearby.

Other comfort features include blackout curtains in the bedroom area, which helped block out the bright morning sun. The room also had daily housekeeping, which meant fresh towels, emptied trash cans, and tidy beds every time we returned from the boardwalk. Climate control is managed through a wall unit with heat and A/C settings, and we had no trouble keeping the space comfortable during warm weather.

Extras like an iron and ironing board, a full-sized table, and a phone are available too. The unit doesn’t come with toothbrushes, toothpaste, or extra specialty toiletries, so be sure to pack your own or bring what you need from home. It also has a hair dryer that works for a quick fix, but if you have curly hair and need a diffuser, bring your own.
Daily Housekeeping Keeps Things Fresh
Housekeeping really stood out here. Each afternoon, we came back to a tidy room with clean towels and freshly made beds. It’s the kind of care that makes a big difference when you’re staying multiple nights, especially with kids or sandy feet from the beach.
Exterior Access and Parking
The unit is accessed via exterior corridors, giving it that classic Wildwood motel feel. We found the walkways to be well-lit and safe, even at night. The building was quiet and had a welcoming, retro look that fit perfectly with the charm of the area.
Guests receive one free parking spot per room. The lot is small, and spaces are tight, but manageable. If you’re driving a larger vehicle, take your time parking or try to arrive early for a more convenient spot. We had no issues once we got the hang of navigating the lot.
Minor Downside To The Efficiency Room At Le Voyageur Motel
As much as I love this hotel, when they did the renovations they took away the door that separates the two bedrooms. The only privacy you have is in the bathroom, and that is okay if everyone decides to go to bed at the same time.
But our older kids stay up much later than we do, so whoever goes to bed first has the disadvantage because you can see the lights and hear everything from the back bedroom. I frankly don’t understand the reasoning behind it, and it is my one big disappointment in the changes made by the hotel.

Super Helpful Tips for Your Stay at Le Voyageur Motel
- Book early. Summer weekends and holidays tend to fill up quickly, especially for larger or efficiency units. Booking a few months ahead ensures better availability and pricing. In fact, we book our trip for the following year before we leave to ensure our dates and room types.
- Bring your own toiletries. The room comes with trial-sized soap and shampoo, but you’ll want to bring full-sized items, especially for a longer stay or larger group.
- Request a floor preference. If you want easy access to your car or pool, the ground floor is ideal. If you prefer a bit of a view or less foot traffic, an upper floor might be better. The efficiency units are located on the first and second floors.
- Pack beach essentials. Le Voyageur is close to the sand, but you’ll still need to bring your own towels, chairs, and sunscreen. A small cooler is great to have on hand, especially for snacks or drinks on the go.
Nearby Restaurants and Dining Options
Wildwood has no shortage of dining options, and staying at Le Voyageur puts you close to several delicious spots. Here are a few that stood out to us:
- Key West Cafe is a charming spot just a few blocks away and one of our favorite breakfast stops. The menu includes everything from fluffy pancakes and omelets to Cuban-style pressed sandwiches. Service is friendly and fast, and it’s family-owned, which adds to the welcoming vibe.
- Dogtooth Bar & Grill offers a casual yet lively atmosphere, with a great mix of pub food, seafood, and daily specials. It’s perfect for lunch or dinner, and there’s a kids’ menu if you’re traveling with little ones. We recommend the wings and any of the fresh seafood options.
- MudHen Brewery is a must-visit if you enjoy craft beer or are traveling with a group. Their beer garden is a fun place to relax in the evenings, and their menu includes elevated comfort food with a beach-town twist. Try the beer flights to sample a variety of local brews.
