Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Preferred Room Review: Is It Worth It?

We recently stayed in one ourselves, and there were definitely some things that surprised us once we were actually in the room and experiencing the resort. Caribbean Beach is a big resort with a lot to consider, so let’s get into what our stay was really like and whether we’d choose this room again.

Choosing a room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort can feel a little overwhelming, especially when you start comparing room categories and locations around such a large resort. There are definitely things that look one way on a resort map or booking page and feel a little different once you’re actually there. This review gives you a closer look at our experience, the things that stood out during our stay, and some of the details I think are helpful to consider before deciding if this is the right room for your Disney vacation.
Before we get into the rest of our stay, there are a few questions that tend to come up when you’re looking at rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Some of these are the little things you might not think about until you’re actually packing or getting ready to check in. Let’s go over a few of those details so you have a better idea of what to expect before your vacation.
Before You Unpack Your Bags at Caribbean Beach Resort
Before getting into my full Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Preferred Room review, there are a few practical questions that often come up when planning a stay. These quick answers cover some of the smaller details that can make a big difference when deciding if this Disney Moderate Resort is the right fit for your Walt Disney World vacation.
Yes. Preferred Rooms typically cost more than Standard Rooms because Disney places them in locations that are considered more convenient to certain resort amenities. The price difference varies depending on your travel dates, availability, and current Walt Disney World Resort pricing.
Room occupancy can vary by the specific room configuration available for your stay. When booking, always check the listed maximum occupancy for the room you are considering, especially when traveling with a family or more than two adults.
You can make room requests, but requests are never guaranteed. If a particular building, floor, or other room feature is important to your vacation, make the request before arrival while understanding that Disney assigns rooms based on availability.
Rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort include a coffee maker and a beverage cooler, not a traditional refrigerator. The beverage cooler is designed to keep drinks cool but may not maintain temperatures appropriate for medications, baby formula, or other items requiring refrigeration. If you need a true refrigerator for medical needs or baby formula, you will need to request one from Disney.
Housekeeping service is provided at Disney Resort hotels, although the frequency and type of service can change. Check Disney’s current housekeeping information before your stay so you know what to expect during your vacation.

A Preferred Room is something you really need to look at in the context of the entire Caribbean Beach Resort experience, including how the room functions during an actual stay and whether the additional cost gives you benefits that matter to your vacation. What Is a Preferred Room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort?
When you see the word “Preferred” while looking at rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, you might assume it means an upgraded room. In reality, a Disney Caribbean Beach Resort Preferred Room is primarily about location and convenience rather than a more luxurious room or additional in-room amenities. You are paying more for where the room is located within this very large resort, not necessarily for a different room experience.
That distinction is important at a resort as spread out as Caribbean Beach. A Preferred Room can put you closer to some of the resort amenities you may use throughout your stay, potentially cutting down on extra walking for meals, drinks, swimming, or a quick trip back to your room. But Preferred does not automatically mean the best location for every guest, especially when transportation is part of the equation. We’ll get into exactly where these rooms are located and what that meant during our stay.
Where Are The Preferred Rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort?
Preferred Rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort are designated based on their location and the convenience that location can provide within this sprawling resort. Our Preferred Room was located in the Jamaica village, Building 41, giving us a firsthand look at what this room category can mean beyond simply choosing a spot close to Old Port Royale. With Caribbean Beach covering such a large area, the village and building you receive can have a noticeable impact on how you get around during your stay.
Our location in Jamaica was particularly interesting because Caribbean Beach is also the hub of the Disney Skyliner system, making transportation an important part of the location conversation. A Preferred designation does not necessarily mean you will be closest to every amenity or transportation option at the resort. That is why I recommend paying attention to the actual village and building location rather than assuming the word “Preferred” automatically means the most convenient spot for everything you plan to do.
Inside Our Disney Caribbean Beach Resort Preferred Room
Stepping inside our Preferred Room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, the Caribbean influence is immediately noticeable without feeling overly themed. The room has two queen beds, rich dark wood furniture, woven details, colorful tropical artwork, and lighting with small pops of color that give the space some personality. I especially liked the tropical curtains and artwork, which add warmth to an otherwise fairly neutral room. There is also a round table with two chairs, a large mirror, ceiling fan, wall-mounted television, coffee station, beverage cooler, and the pull-down fifth sleeper featuring Mickey and Pluto relaxing in a hammock.
While the room does show its age in a few areas, it felt comfortable and functional for a Disney vacation, with just enough theming to remind you that you are staying at Caribbean Beach Resort without Disney characters taking over the entire space.
Disney Caribbean Beach Resort Preferred Room Layout and Storage
Our Preferred Room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort had two queen beds with a large furniture unit running along the opposite wall. The room also included a round table with two chairs, a large wall mirror, television, coffee station, beverage cooler, and several surfaces that came in handy for setting down smaller items. One of my favorite uses of the space was the pull-down fifth sleeper tucked into the main furniture unit. When closed, it blends into the room and provides a bench, but when opened, it creates an additional sleeping space complete with fun Disney artwork featuring Mickey and Pluto. The room felt comfortable when everything was put away, although opening the fifth sleeper naturally takes away some of that floor space.
Storage is where I think families need to plan ahead. There are several small drawers incorporated into the furniture, but there is not a traditional dresser with a large amount of drawer space. The open closet area near the bathroom provides hanging space, plenty of hangers, a luggage rack, ironing board and iron, an in-room safe, and a shelf for additional items. There are also open shelves beneath the bathroom vanity that can hold towels or toiletries. For two people, we were able to make the storage work, but I could see a family of four or five filling the available space very quickly, particularly on a longer Walt Disney World vacation.
I did like that Disney incorporated useful surfaces throughout the room rather than filling the space with oversized furniture. The table gives you somewhere to eat breakfast or sit with a laptop, the coffee area is separate from the sleeping space, and there are additional countertop areas for park bags, chargers, and other things you tend to accumulate during a Disney trip. The room makes good use of its footprint, but if you are someone who likes to completely unpack your suitcase, I would recommend packing with the limited drawer space in mind. For a larger family, packing cubes or other ways of keeping everyone’s belongings organized could be especially helpful.
The Bathroom Setup: What Works and What Doesn’t
The bathroom in our Preferred Room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort had a practical split layout, with the double vanity located outside of the room containing the toilet and tub/shower combination. The vanity offered two sinks set into a large countertop, a wide mirror, and a lighted magnifying mirror. Having two sinks is a definite plus when more than one person is trying to get ready in the morning. There was also enough counter space between and around the sinks for toiletries, which is something I always appreciate in a hotel room.
The vanity area also doubles as the room’s closet and getting-ready space. Next to the sinks was an open hanging area with plenty of hangers, an ironing board, iron, luggage rack, extra pillow and blanket, and an in-room safe. I liked having everything together in one area, although there is no traditional enclosed closet. One thing to consider with this open design is that anyone using the sinks, getting dressed, or organizing clothes is doing so in a space that opens directly into the main room.
The toilet and tub/shower are behind a separate door, allowing someone to shower while another person uses the vanity area. The bathroom has a traditional bathtub rather than a walk-in shower, which can be helpful for families traveling with younger children.
Overall, I think the layout uses the available space well and having the double vanity outside the main bathroom is one of its most practical features. It may not feel particularly luxurious, but for a Walt Disney World vacation where several people may be trying to get ready and out the door at the same time, functionality can matter a lot more.
How Close Is a Preferred Room to Old Port Royale?
While we really liked the location of our Preferred Room in Jamaica Building 41 for the Disney Skyliner, getting to Old Port Royale was a farther walk. Old Port Royale is the main hub of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, so this is where you’ll head for Centertown Market, the feature pool, Banana Cabana, Sebastian’s Bistro, shopping, and other resort amenities. The walk itself was manageable, but it is something I would take into consideration when choosing this location.
The distance becomes more noticeable when you are carrying refillable mugs or making a food run for the family. Walking over for a quick drink refill can feel a lot less convenient when you know you have to carry everything back to your room. For our stay, Jamaica offered a nice advantage for Skyliner access, but I would not choose this location specifically for easy access to Old Port Royale. If being close to the resort’s main dining and amenities is a priority for your family, that is something I would weigh against the transportation convenience before choosing your room category.
Getting Around Caribbean Beach Resort With the Internal Shuttle
One option for getting around Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is the internal bus system. With multiple villages spread across a large property, the buses can save you from making the entire walk to Old Port Royale, especially after a long park day or when the Florida heat makes those extra steps less appealing. From our Preferred Room in Jamaica Building 41, having the bus as an option was nice, particularly since Old Port Royale was not right outside our door.
The downside is that the bus schedule may not always line up with when you want to go. If you are simply heading to Old Port Royale to refill your mugs or pick up food for the family, waiting for a bus could potentially take longer than walking. You also have to think about getting back to your room afterward. I would look at the internal buses as a helpful option rather than something I would rely on every time I wanted to visit the main hub. It is another reason why the exact location of your room at Caribbean Beach Resort can make a difference in your overall experience.
What About the Disney Skyliner?
One of the biggest advantages of our Preferred Room in Jamaica Building 41 was the convenience to the Disney Skyliner. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort serves as the main hub for the Skyliner system, with direct routes toward EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. From the Jamaica section, getting to the main Skyliner hub was easy, which made heading to the parks feel much more convenient than relying solely on bus transportation.
I especially liked that our location gave us convenient access to the Skyliner while still keeping us within a reasonable distance of Old Port Royale and the main resort amenities. At a resort as large as Caribbean Beach, that balance can make a difference. If EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are a big part of your vacation plans, the Jamaica section is worth considering because you can have convenient access to the main Skyliner hub without feeling disconnected from the rest of the resort.
Preferred Room vs. Standard Room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
When comparing a Preferred Room vs. Standard Room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, the biggest difference is not what you will find inside the room. A Preferred Room does not automatically come with upgraded furnishings, additional amenities, or extra Disney perks simply because you paid for the higher room category. The distinction is primarily about location within this very large resort. That is important to understand when comparing prices because you should not expect to open the door to a noticeably different room just because your reservation says Preferred.
A Standard Room can be a great way to save money if room location is not particularly important to you, while Preferred gives you more control over the general area where Disney places your room. Before booking, I would compare the price difference for your exact vacation dates rather than assuming one category is always the better choice. Rates fluctuate, and sometimes the jump to Preferred may be small enough to make sense, while other times the savings from Standard could be better spent elsewhere during your Walt Disney World vacation.
What We Liked About Our Caribbean Beach Resort Preferred Room
What we liked most about the inside of our Preferred Room was how comfortable and spacious it felt for two adults. With two queen beds, we had plenty of room to spread out, and the table and chairs gave us a separate place to sit with coffee, eat something quick, or plan our day instead of always sitting on the beds. I also appreciated the double vanity, ceiling fan, and the extra surfaces throughout the room for keeping our everyday things within reach.
The Caribbean-inspired details were probably my favorite part visually, especially the tropical curtains, colorful lighting, artwork, and rich wood finishes. Even the hidden Mickey and Pluto artwork behind the pull-down bed added a fun Disney touch without making the room feel overly themed. It felt like a comfortable resort room for two adults while still having enough personality to remind us we were staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
What We Would Change About the Room
While the room worked well for our stay, there were a few things I would change, starting with the amount of drawer space. There simply was not enough, especially if you are staying for several nights and prefer to unpack instead of living out of your suitcase. This could become even more noticeable for a family sharing the room. More drawers or enclosed storage would make the space much easier to keep organized, particularly when you already have park bags, shoes, souvenirs, and everything else that seems to accumulate during a Walt Disney World vacation.
There were also two smaller details that became surprisingly noticeable. The bathroom fan was connected to a motion sensor, so it would automatically turn on when you entered, and it was loud. There was no quietly slipping into the bathroom without potentially waking someone else. I also wish the room had true blackout curtains. After long days in the parks, being able to completely darken the room can make a big difference, especially for families with young children taking naps or anyone hoping to sleep a little later in the morning. None of these would keep me from staying here again, but they are details I would want to know before booking.
Who Should Book a Preferred Room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort?
Think about how your family handles a typical Disney day. If getting everyone out the door involves a stroller, park bags, refillable mugs, kids who are already asking for breakfast, or family members who tire easily from walking, paying more for a Preferred Room may be money well spent. It can also make sense for guests who build resort time into their vacation instead of leaving first thing in the morning and returning only to sleep. The more you come and go from your room throughout the day, the more important its location can become.
This resort has character photo ops, so if that is important to you, it is a definite plus. They are available to everyone, not just those in preferred rooms.
On the other hand, if you are a rope-drop-to-fireworks family that spends very little time at the resort, I would take a closer look at the price difference before automatically choosing Preferred. The same goes for adults or couples who do not mind walking and would rather put that extra money toward dining, park tickets, or another part of their vacation. Preferred is not necessarily a room category everyone needs. It is one of those Disney upgrades where I think the value depends much more on your travel style and priorities than on the room itself.
Is a Preferred Room at Disney Caribbean Beach Resort Worth It?
So, is a Preferred Room at Disney Caribbean Beach Resort worth it? I think the answer comes down to what you expect the word “Preferred” to buy you. If you are expecting a noticeably upgraded room, extra amenities, or a more luxurious experience once you walk through the door, the additional cost may be disappointing. The value is much less tangible. You are paying for the potential to make certain parts of your vacation easier, and at Walt Disney World, convenience can sometimes be worth more than an upgraded room feature.
I also would not choose Preferred simply because it sounds like the “better” room category. Before paying the difference, compare the actual price for your travel dates and ask yourself what that money is buying for your particular trip. A $20-per-night difference feels very different from a significantly larger increase over a week-long vacation.
I would rather see my clients choose the room category that fits how they plan to vacation than pay more just because Disney labels it Preferred. For some trips, I would absolutely spend the extra money. For others, I would happily book a Standard Room and put the savings toward something we would enjoy more.
Would We Book a Preferred Room at Caribbean Beach Resort Again?
Yes, we would stay in a Preferred Room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort again. Even with a few things I would change, like adding more drawer space, true blackout curtains, and a quieter bathroom fan, none of those were big enough to outweigh what worked well for us. The room was comfortable, had plenty of space for the two of us, and I liked the subtle Caribbean touches and Disney details without the theming feeling overwhelming. Most importantly, our location in Jamaica Building 41 worked very well for how we spent our vacation, especially with the convenient access to the Disney Skyliner.
I would absolutely consider this room category again for a future Walt Disney World stay, particularly when the price difference between Standard and Preferred makes sense for our travel dates.
