What To Expect On Departure Day At Sandals Resorts
After spending your days lounging by the pool, sipping cocktails under swaying palms, and soaking in every romantic moment, it’s hard to believe your departure day at Sandals Resorts is just around the corner. From the moment you arrive, the vibe is effortless and indulgent. The idea of packing up and heading home feels like the last thing you want to think about.
There’s something bittersweet about that final morning at Sandals Resorts. You know it’s time to say goodbye, but part of you wants to tuck away just one more beach walk or sunrise coffee before slipping back into reality.

I admit, talking about departure day from Sandals Resorts is not my favorite thing. It’s always so hard to realize that the wonderful vacation you just experienced is about to end. Back to reality and work and real-life can be hard. I always feel like man, it was just arrival day, now is it time to go home already? This guide will help you to know what to do for a smooth departure experience.
Before I get into what you need to know about departure day and how the whole process works, I thought I would answer the most popular questions from clients about what to expect. Let’s go over those first.
Important Questions You Might Have About Departure Day At Sandals Resorts
Even though Sandals Resorts handles the departure process in a smooth manner, there are always a few questions that tend to pop up as your trip winds down. Whether it’s about tipping, late flights, or airport logistics, here are a few helpful answers to common questions guests often ask during those final hours.
Most Sandals employees cannot accept tips, but there are a few exceptions. Your butler and spa therapist can be tipped directly if you feel they went above and beyond during your stay. The airport shuttle driver who takes you back to the airport is not a Sandals employee, so it is perfectly acceptable to offer a small tip as a thank-you for handling your luggage or providing a smooth ride.
In most cases, departure taxes are already included in your airfare or resort package, so you won’t need to pay anything extra when you get to the airport. If you’re unsure, take a quick look at your flight confirmation or check with your airline ahead of time. It never hurts to have a little local currency on hand, just in case.
Yes, you can enjoy one last breakfast before your departure. Whether you prefer something quick at the café or a sit-down meal at one of the restaurants, the resort makes it easy to grab a bite before your shuttle pick-up. If you’re staying in a Butler or Club Level suite, you may also have time to request room service, depending on your schedule.
Late check-out isn’t guaranteed, but it’s worth asking. Be aware there is an extra fee for late check-out that you will have to pay on departure day. If your room isn’t needed right away for an arriving guest, the resort may be able to give you a little extra time. If not, the concierge will store your luggage and you’ll still have full access to the property, including the hospitality lounge where you can shower, change, and relax before your shuttle arrives.
Yes, you’re welcome to enjoy the resort amenities after checking out. Even though your room key is turned in by 11:00 a.m., you still have access to the beach, pools, restaurants, and bars until your shuttle arrives. Just be sure to pack a change of clothes in your carry-on if you plan to swim or get sandy. The hospitality lounge offers showers and a place to freshen up before you leave.
Hopefully that helps take the guesswork out of your final morning. Knowing what to expect can make departure day feel a little less overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to balance travel details with soaking up your last few moments in paradise. A calm, well-prepared exit always makes the journey home feel a little smoother.

The Departure Envelope Arrives The Night Before You Leave
When you return to your room that last evening, you’ll find a white envelope waiting for you. It’s either slipped under the door or left neatly on the bed by your housekeeping or butler team. Inside, you’ll find everything you need to know about the next day, including your shuttle pick-up time, when to set your luggage out, and when you’ll need to check out of your room. It might feel a little surreal seeing it, but it’s Sandals’ way of making sure your departure is as easy and organized as the rest of your stay.

We affectionately calls this the “white envelope of doom”. It is always a bittersweet thing to see because it truly means the fun is over. But it is such an important part of your stay as it contains very important information.
The instructions are clear and simple, so even if you’re not ready to leave, you’ll at least feel prepared. And with that part taken care of, you can head out and enjoy one last evening in paradise, knowing tomorrow will run smoothly.
Bag Pick-Up Happens Outside Your Room Before You Leave
You’ll also see a note in your envelope letting you know when to have your bags ready for pick-up. Usually, you’ll be asked to place them right outside your room about an hour before your shuttle is scheduled to arrive. If you’re in a Butler Suite, your butler will likely stop by to help with this, but even if you’re in another room category, a bellman will come by to take care of everything.
Before you set your suitcase outside, make sure it’s zipped, tagged, and ready for the journey. Keep a smaller carry-on or personal bag with you that includes your travel essentials, things like your passport, boarding pass, wallet, phone, charger, and any medications. If you picked up snacks at the resort, prepackaged items like cookies or banana chips can go in your day bag. Just remember that anything liquid or breakable, like bottles of rum or hot sauce, should always go in your checked luggage. It’s safer that way, and it follows TSA rules for international travel.
Sandals Check-Out Time Is Usually 11:00 A.M.
Most guests are expected to check out of their room by 11:00 a.m., even if their shuttle is later in the afternoon. If that’s the case, don’t worry, you’ll still have access to the resort for the rest of the day. You can leave your bags with the concierge desk and head off to enjoy a few more hours by the pool or beach. Just remember it is your responsibility to keep track of the time and be ready when it’s time to board the shuttle.
Most Sandals Resorts have a hospitality lounge for guests with late flights. These spaces usually have restrooms, showers, a quiet seating area, and a spot to grab a cup of coffee or water. It’s a comfortable way to freshen up and unwind before your airport ride. Whether you choose to relax in the lounge or take one last stroll along the shore, the resort gives you the space to ease out of vacation mode gently.

Any Extra Purchases Are Paid At Check-Out
If you made any purchases during your stay that aren’t part of the all-inclusive package, like upgraded spa treatments, premium wine, professional photos from SnapShots, or gifts from the resort boutique, those charges will appear on your final bill. The total will be in your departure envelope so you can review it before heading to the front desk.
If everything looks right, you can sign the sheet and settle your bill during check-out. If you have questions or need anything adjusted, the front desk is happy to help. Payments can be made by credit card, debit card, or cash, and the whole process is quick and easy. It’s one less thing to worry about on a travel day. If you want to pay by cash, I highly recommend doing it the night before departure instead of waiting for your departure day so your final balance isn’t charged to your credit card on file.
Guests With Late Flights Can Still Enjoy The Resort
If your flight isn’t until the afternoon or evening, you don’t have to spend the day just waiting around. One of the perks of staying at Sandals is that even after you’ve checked out of your room, the resort is still yours to enjoy. You can head back to the beach, lounge by the pool, grab a final mimosa at brunch, or simply relax under your favorite palm tree.

The concierge will safely store your luggage so you can move around freely. Just be sure to keep your carry-on bag with anything you’ll need later in the day, including a change of clothes. If you want to take a quick swim or enjoy the ocean one more time, you can rinse off and freshen up before your shuttle arrives. Most resorts have a hospitality lounge with restrooms, showers, and a comfortable spot to relax before departure.
Making Departure Day Feel Relaxed And Easy
Even though you’re leaving paradise, your last few hours at Sandals can still feel calm and enjoyable. With everything mapped out for you, from your shuttle timing to luggage pick-up and check-out, you’re free to focus on the good parts. Whether that means a quiet coffee on the beach, a delicious breakfast, or one last round of your favorite island drink, you can still soak in a few more moments before heading home.

It helps to think of departure day not as the end of your vacation, but as the soft landing that eases you back into real life. From the hospitality lounge to the sweet staff goodbyes, Sandals Resorts makes sure your send-off is just as thoughtful as your welcome.
What To Expect Once You Arrive At The Airport
When it’s time to leave, the Sandals team will call your name and help you gather your bags. Once you board your shuttle, you’ll take one last ride through the island, usually with a few other couples who are also wrapping up their vacations. Depending on your departure time, traffic and weather, the ride to the airport can vary a little, but everything is timed to ensure you arrive with more than enough time.
Once you get to the airport, you’ll handle the rest of your travel day on your own. Sandals staff members are not stationed inside the terminal, so you’ll check in at your airline’s counter, go through security, and follow standard airport procedures. Some airports in the Caribbean offer fast-track departure services, which you can book in advance for a smoother experience, but they aren’t included with your Sandals stay.
As long as you have your travel documents handy, arrive early, and keep an eye on airport signage, you’ll be just fine. Most guests find that the shuttle timing arranged by Sandals gives them a comfortable buffer, even on busier travel days.
And once you’re on the plane, scrolling through your photos or texting your favorite to a friend, you might already be dreaming about your next trip. Whether it’s returning to the same resort or trying a new Sandals Resorts destination, I’ll be here to help you plan every step when you’re ready to come back.
