How To Make the Most of Arrival Day at Sandals Resorts
There’s nothing like that moment when you finally arrive in paradise. Arrival day at Sandals Resorts is exciting, but it can also leave you feeling a little out of sorts. After hours of travel, airport lines, and maybe a few flight delays, you step into warm sunshine and a welcome drink. Your mind is racing with everything you want to do, but your body is still catching up.
Instead of trying to do it all right away, give yourself a moment to just be. Let the ocean breeze sink in. Find a shady spot to sit for a few minutes and take in the sounds around you. That first day at a Sandals Resort isn’t about checking off a list. It’s about gently slipping into vacation mode, feeling the stress melt away, and realizing that you have nowhere to be but right here. You don’t have to rush into anything. The rest of the trip will unfold exactly how it should.

I know the first time we went to a Sandals Resort, we had no idea what we were doing. We were newly married, exhausted from the festivities & the travel, and more than a little bit overwhelmed. Back then, I wished I would have had a guide like this to help me navigate everything. I hope that you find it as useful as I intended it to be.
Before we dive into the guide for how to make the most of arrival day at Sandals Resorts, let’s talk about some of the most frequently asked questions you might have. Ready? Let’s go!
What Sandals Resorts Guests Want To Know About Arrival Day
If you’re getting ready for your first stay at Sandals Resorts, it helps to know what arrival day is actually like. From what to wear, to when your room might be ready, to how things work at the airport and resort, knowing what to expect can make the whole experience feel easier. These are some of the most common questions I hear from new guests, and getting them answered ahead of time can help you feel more relaxed before you even leave home.
It’s best to wear something comfortable and lightweight. Travel outfits like loose dresses, polos, shorts, or casual resort wear work well. Pack a change of clothes in your carry-on so you can freshen up when you arrive, or better yet have a swimsuit so you can jump right in the pool.
Yes, free Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, including common areas and guest rooms. You can connect shortly after arrival, once you know your assigned room. The lounge has public wifi you can use for a quick check-in back home.
Absolutely. Even if your room isn’t ready, you’re welcome to enjoy pools, beaches, bars, and restaurants. Just check in at the front desk and the staff will let you know what’s available right away.
Tipping is not permitted at Sandals Resorts, as gratuities are included. The only exception is for butlers and spa staff. If you receive outstanding service, you can choose to tip your butler directly. However, the driver from the airport to the resort can be tipped because they are not Sandals Resorts employees. Have a few small bills just for that.
Yes. Once your room is ready, the bell staff will bring your luggage directly to your suite. If you need anything from your bags earlier, just ask and they’ll be happy to help.
Now that we’ve covered a few of the basics, let’s walk through what arrival day really looks like. I’ll take you step by step through the airport process, what to do while you wait for your room, how to make dining reservations, and how to ease into your very first day at Sandals with zero stress.

What Happens When You Arrive at the Airport for a Sandals Vacation
After your flight, once you make your way through immigration and baggage claim, the next step is finding your Sandals transfer. Most international airports that serve Sandals Resorts have a dedicated Sandals Lounge. It’s a private space just for Sandals guests, where you can check in, grab a drink, and cool off while they get your transportation ready. If the airport you’re flying into doesn’t have a lounge, there will be a Sandals kiosk instead, where a team member will check your name and guide you from there.

You don’t need to worry about arranging anything in advance. Once you’re checked in at the lounge or kiosk, the Sandals Resorts team will take care of getting you to the resort. Whether you’re riding in a shared shuttle or a private transfer, everything has already been planned out.
If there’s one tip that really makes a difference, it’s packing a change of clothes in your carry-on. After hours of sitting on a plane, slipping into a lightweight outfit helps you feel refreshed and ready to start vacation. And if your room isn’t ready right away or your luggage takes a little extra time, don’t let it throw off your mood.

You’ve arrived. Now it’s time to let the Caribbean take over while you start to relax.
What To Expect During Sandals Resort Check-In
Walking through the resort doors for the first time is such a good feeling. The welcome drinks, cool towels, and friendly faces are all part of that signature Sandals experience. But depending on what time you arrive, your room might not be quite ready. Check-in officially begins at 3 PM, so if you arrive earlier in the day, it’s completely normal to have a bit of a wait. Don’t let that throw you off or set the wrong tone. This is actually a great opportunity to settle in.
Grab a drink, find a cozy spot near the beach or pool, and let your shoulders drop. That first hour or two is perfect for soaking up the vibe, wandering a little, or just people-watching with a cocktail in hand. You can also use this time to ask questions, grab a resort map, or make your first dinner reservation if you haven’t already. There’s no need to plan out your entire stay right away. Keeping things loose on the first day helps you stay relaxed and gives you time to get a feel for the resort.

When Will Your Sandals Room Be Ready and What Should You Do First?
Once your room is ready, take a few minutes to settle in without rushing. Walk around, open a few drawers, figure out the lighting and AC, and just let the space become familiar. This is your home base for the next few days, so feeling comfortable right from the start makes everything easier.
If something doesn’t seem right, maybe a light isn’t working or you have a question about the setup, just call the front desk or Club Sandals. They’re always helpful and want your stay to be as smooth as possible. In some cases, they may be able to move you or offer another room if one is available.

And if your room isn’t ready right away, don’t just sit in the lobby waiting. Grab a bite to eat, walk along the beach, or relax with a drink by the pool. That time still counts as vacation.
Remember To Make Dining Reservations on Arrival Day at Sandals Resorts
Dining is a big part of the Sandals experience, and there are so many great options to try. Some of the fine dining restaurants, especially the ones that require reservations, can book up quickly. As soon as you’re checked in, it’s a good idea to make those reservations right away, especially if there’s a restaurant you’ve been dreaming about trying.
If you’re staying in a Butler suite, your butler will take care of all the reservations for you. Club Level guests can stop by the Club Sandals lounge to get help with booking meals. If you’re staying in a Luxury-level room, you’ll find the Culinary Concierge available to assist with reservations. No matter which room category you’re in, the staff will guide you so you don’t miss out on any special dining experiences.

You don’t need to plan every single meal on your first day. Book the spots that require reservations, then let the rest of your meals unfold naturally. Sometimes the best dining memories happen when you wander in without a plan.
How To Explore Sandals Resorts On Arrival Day Without Getting Overwhelmed
Sandals resorts are beautiful and easy to walk around, but they can feel big at first, especially if you’ve just arrived. You don’t need to explore every corner right away. Just take a casual walk and find the spots you’ll use the most like the fastest way to your room, the main pool, the beach, a couple of restaurants, and your favorite bar.
Most resorts also offer a short orientation tour, which is a great way to get a quick overview without feeling lost or overwhelmed. Wear something comfortable, carry a drink or a bottle of water, and let yourself take it all in. You’ll know your way around faster than you think.
Why a Slow Arrival Day Leads to a Better Sandals Vacation
You’ve been waiting for this. You’ve packed, planned, and counted down the days. Now you’re here, and arrival day is your chance to take a deep breath and truly feel it. Don’t worry if things aren’t perfect right away. Every trip has a few little bumps in the beginning, but none of them take away from the big picture. You’re in paradise now, and the rest of your stay is going to fall into place.

If you ever feel unsure about how to structure those first few hours, or you want a little help planning what comes next, I’d love to help. I’ve stayed at many Sandals Resorts myself, and I’ve learned what makes arrival day feel calm, welcoming, and completely stress-free.
